“Spearfishing Tonga, pride themselves on utilising the best possible spearfishing guides”
Spearfishing Tonga, pride themselves on utilising the best possible spearfishing guides available to help ensure a safe and successful spearfishing expedition. Spearfishing Tonga proudly utilise a combination of native Tongan spearfisherman and a select few “international” guides.
Spearfishing Tonga owner Robert Torelli has been guiding clients spearfishing throughout the South Pacific for the past 25 years. Robert, a former 10 times Australian Open Spearfishing Champion has helped his clients obtain numerous World Records from dogtooth tuna through to sailfish and select reef species. More recently, Robert has helped train a young and enthusiastic team of Tongan spearfisherman as “world class” spearfishing guides.
Robert Torelli is the owner of Spearfishing Tonga and the Blue Water Retreat and whilst he doesn’t spend as much time as he would like to guiding these days he is constantly helping improve his team and the services they can offer their clients.
Spearfishing Tonga’s most senior “local” spearfishing guide is Sione Lea’aetala (AKA Johnny). Sione has been working for the company since it started in 2014 and is also a licensed whale swim guide and a licensed skipper. When he is not working for Spearfishing Tonga he can be found in their local waters spearfishing, putting food on the table for his families. Sione is a very popular guide and an important part of the Spearfishing Tonga team.
Lochlan Pendlebury is an experienced spearfishermen from Margaret River in Western Australia. Spearfishing from a young age, navigating, and learning the south coast Australian waters! Over time, my passion for being in the water has grown immensely. He is always seeking new dive adventures and experiences with like-minded people!
He enjoys spending time out on the water, whether it’s spearfishing, surfing, underwater photography, or looking around at the end of the day.
He is excited to spending time at Blue Water Retreat, meeting the crew, and creating the next adventure!
Spearfishing Tonga is also proud to welcome back Layne Wilkens as a senior spearfishing and line fishing guide in 2020. Layne, originally from South Africa, spent the 2019 season working with Spearfishing Tonga as a whale swim guide and spearfishing guide. Layne has worked and spearfished extensively around the world as a licensed skipper, whale swim guide and sport fishing guide. A deep free diver, Layne has an uncanny knack of finding world class fish for his clients.
Layne has recently been certified as a Free diving Instructor under the Molchanov regime. It is hoped that Layne will help train up the next generation of young up and coming free diving and spearfishing guides in the Kingdom of Tonga.
