Spearfishing Tonga was established as a spearfishing charter company in Tonga in 2014 by Robert Torelli. Robert’s aim was to cater for the passionate blue water spearfisherman wanting a guided spearfishing adventure to the Kingdom of Tonga. Robert had formerly been running blue water spearfishing and underwater photography travel for 20 years through his Australian based company Blue Water Hunting International. A former 10 times Australian Open Spearfishing Champion and multiple World Record holder Robert has a passion for blue water spearfishing, underwater photography, adventure and travel.
In 2015 Robert commenced his exploration of the Kingdom of Tonga searching for the ultimate destination for a spearfishing, whale swim and sport fishing base. This included numerous trips to Ha’apai, Vava’u, Tongatapu and Eua. These trips resulted in many successful and satisfying expeditions for his international cliental.
Each location had is “pros and cons” and Robert did not rush into things. His whale swim base in Tongatapu kept things “ticking over” and Robert patiently awaited his time to find the “ultimate blue water destination”. He was in search for something that was unique, productive and accessible that could cater for his client’s needs.
Fast forward to October 2019 and Roberts’s vision has finally become a reality when he purchased the Deep Resort in Eua. Robert has been utilising this resort for several years as his Eua base for whale swims and spearfishing and when it came on the market it was the obvious choice to purchase.
Since its purchase in 2020 the Blue Water Retreat has been met with a few natural disasters in both TC Harold and the recent Tsunami. These along with the COVID pandemic have given us some “down time” time to do some fresh renovations and a refurbishment of the Blue Water Retreat.
We have re invested into this exciting project and look forward to showcasing some of the best spearfishing, sportfishing and whale swimming in the South Pacific. We look forward to seeing you soon.
